Festival also known as International
Film Festival since 2002 and known in English as the Cannes Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes. Cannes Film Festival founded on September 20, 1946 the invitation-only festival
is held annually usually in May. Cannes Film Festival previews new films of all genres, including
documentaries, from all around the world.
On 1-July-2014, former head and co-founder of French
pay-TV operator Canal & Pierre Lescure took over as President of the festival.
Gilles Jacob also appointed as Honorary President of the festival by the Board of Directors.
History of Cannes
- The Cannes Film Festival has its origins in 1932, on the proposal of Philippe Erlanger and with the support of the British and Americans when Jean Zay, the French Minister of National Education.
- In 1947, the festival was held as the "Festival du film de Cannes", where films from sixteen countries were presented.
- The festival is now held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, expressly constructed for the occasion, although for its 1949 inaugural the roof was unfinished and blew off during a storm.
- Stars posing for photographers are a part of Cannes folklore.
- Now the festival has become an important showcase for European films.
